The Cable Bay Tale

Since 1996 Cable Bay Vineyards has dared to be different- setting up a modern vineyard on Waiheke Island that is intimately connected to the community, and continuously exploring ways to make wines that bring to life the regions of Waiheke, Otago, and Marlborough in New Zealand.  Cable Bay’s Waiheke Island holdings all boast Sustainable Winegrowing NZ accreditation and are broken into small parcels which give the grapes a unique personality.  Winemaker Neill Culley uses an old world approach combined with new world techniques.  He chooses a wide range of fruit from different regions of New Zealand to create balanced and exquisite wines that are known for subtlety, elegance, and depth.  Cable Bay also employs traditional techniques such as hand harvesting, whole bunch pressing, hand plunged red fermentation, and barrel aging to ensure the highest quality.  The winery on Waiheke is a cultural local hub with an award winning wine bar and restaurant surrounded by stunning architecture and displays of art and sculptures by local artists.  Open a bottle and let your imagination be captured by New Zealand’s finest.
